On a visit to Stora Enso in Imatra
Visiting our long-standing business partner Stora Enso.
GT Trendhouse 42 is on a visit to Stora Enso in Imatra
The base for our high-end print products is cardboard and one of our long-standing business partner is Stora Enso. Stora Enso is the second-largest forest enterprise of the world and also ranges to one of the biggest paper and cardboard producers worldwide. Once a year we visit this company in Finland to get new impressions and take a look at how our base is getting produced. With our finnish friends we were in Imatra this year again. Imatra is a small place in the south of Finland. Our main topics during our visit were sustainability and innovation. So we visited a nursery garden, which is currently responsible for 5 million new growing trees. One tree needs to grow up to 70 years until it can get logged and be processed to cardboard. With the responsible conduct of companies like Stora Enso it developed so far, that the woods of Finland grow steadily and more and more trees are rising instead of being cleared.
Following with the Innovation Center of Stora Enso in Helsinki, we could discover how we can revolutionize, for example packaging, by renewable materials like cardboard. Stora is always working on new ways to replace materials such as plastic, and replace it with sustainable pulp.
Actually our visit had another reason. We accompanied the FC Schalke 04. Bodo Menze, founder of the “Knappenschmiede” and the honorary president Gerhard Rehberg represented their club and Menze hold an impressive coaching programme for Imatra`s B-youth football team. Already last year, he showed them what matters in football, so they were more happy that he continued his training this year. But not only the youth were taught. Some coaches of the partner football club “Zenit St. Petersburg” had come to learn from Menzes experience in youth training.
