About us

To us, successful communication goes beyond purely visual impressions. It is important that your printed materials have a memorable feel, too. Many consumer goods only really become interesting and unique as a result of their packaging. That's why soon after starting our business, we decided to expand our portfolio.

Today, we are experts for high-quality print projects and offer state-of-the-art laminating, varnishing and embossing services alongside sophisticated book binding techniques. Currently, about 60 employees work at our locations in Gelsenkirchen and Alsdorf and will do everything to provide the best possible service. In whatever we do, our guiding principle is: "Don't offer the predictable, but create products which stimulate the senses and never cease to amaze."

At GT Produktion, we are creative pioneers in that we develop new UV and effect coatings and innovative production approaches. At the same time, however, we also want to protect the environment. That's why we make sure to use varnish, glue and foil that can be recycled. Similarly, the finishing materials we use can be produced without solvents and emissions.

For a sustainable world. Günter Thomas loves innovation – not only when it comes to developing new printing and finishing technologies, but also for finding efficient ways of being kind to the environment. As a result, Günter Thomas, together with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, was the first to unite innovative finishing technologies and sustainability in one printing machine. At the time, this combination of printing technology and environmental protection was a novelty in the printing industry, and it was funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment with 400,000 euros. The result was the "DuoPress", which started work at the Gelsenkirchen location in 2002 and was the first printing machine of its kind in the world. Other leading manufacturers of printing machines were quick to emulate this concept.

Finishing print products in an environmentally friendly way. The next generation, "XL 105 DuoPress" by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, which was installed by Günter Thomas between 2008 and 2009, is based on the same, albeit modified, technology. As a result, Günter Thomas has managed to avoid creating polluted waste and sewage, lowered energy requirements by 30% and saved 90% of detergents. By participating in the development of state-of-the-art technology, we have been able to make a valuable contribution to protecting our environment. Günter Thomas

How did it all start?

»I left home at 16 to make music. Music was my world. I loved the way it used light and effects to add to its emotions. In everything I've ever done, I have always wanted to transcend the ordinary, pedestrian world, to look at things in a different way, and to present them in a new light. I trained as a printer, and I thought to myself: printing must be much more than just putting colour on paper. Paper can be charged with emotion. It can represent everything people love.«

Where do you find your ideas for new solutions?

»The competition never sleeps. You have to stay on top of things, make headway, try out new things, and take risks, where necessary. To do that, you have to walk through life with your eyes wide open, to gather inspiration. Then I sit down with my team to find out how we can put the new ideas into practice. It's important that there is a spark in everything we do, and that we strive for the best. When we look at something, it takes us five minutes to decide. We don't spend a lot of time talking. We just sit down at our computers and say, this is the way we'll do it. Done, dusted. Half an hour, and everything's finished.«

How do GT Trendhouse and GT Produktion tie in with one another?

»Trendhouse is music, setting the scene, experience, a think tank. Produktion is the guitar, with all of its components; knowledge about the composition. One can't work without the other.«

What would your best friend say about you?

»Crazy and dependable. You don't have to conclude a 500-page contract with him. A piece of paper the size of a beer mat will suffice. That's how simple it is.«
